Before December 31
Use Your Dental Benefits Before They Reset
Most PPO dental plans run on the calendar year. The annual maximum your plan will pay usually resets on January 1, and in most plans, unused benefits do not carry over.
Why the end of the year matters
- Annual maximum: the most your plan pays each year. What you don't use usually doesn't roll over.
- Deductible: if you've already met it this year, more of your remaining care may be covered before it starts over.
- Preventive visits: many plans cover exams and cleanings at a high percentage; unused visits don't carry forward.
- FSA and HSA accounts: some flexible spending accounts have a year-end deadline. Check the rules with your employer.
Care worth planning before the year ends
- Exams and cleanings you haven't used yet this year
- Fillings and crowns your dentist has already recommended
- Root canal treatment that has been put off
- Gum treatment
- Starting a phased treatment plan, so costs can be split across two benefit years
How we help
Call us with your insurance information, and our team will check your remaining benefits and explain what your plan is likely to cover before you decide. We accept all PPO dental plans and Medi-Cal Dental.
End-of-year appointments fill quickly, so calling early gives you the most choice of dates.
Do unused dental benefits roll over?
In most PPO plans, no. The annual maximum usually resets on January 1. A few plans offer a rollover feature, so ask us to check yours.
How do I know how much I have left?
Call us with your insurance details, and our team will check your remaining benefits for you.
Can I split treatment across two years?
Often, yes. Phasing treatment can let you use this year's benefits and next year's. We'll explain the options before anything is scheduled.
